Whitney Mckenzie is a millennial book blogger with a passion for reading and a thirst for success. Whitney has interviewed and connected with very well know authors such as C, Monet trying to expand her brand as well as inspire both present and future generations to put down the phone and read. Whitney has been a personal friend of mine for years and I can personally attest to her ambition and passion for what she does. Whitney in not only the owner of her own blog, but she also has a very open and raw podcast to discuss issues in and around her community. I recently did a Q and A with Whitney to gain a deeper understanding of her love for reading and passion for her blog. Q: With so much technology available, what is it about a good book that excites you?

A: When it comes to a good book or books I would like to purchase it’s nothing like having a physical book in your hand the smell of the fresh pages it’s like a cup of coffee to me even tho I love my kindle books it’s nothing like a physical book! The cover, the title and most importantly the synopsis !

Q: Who is your favorite author and how does he or she inspire you?

A: When it comes to favorite authors too many to name but I will give you one I love Mary Monroe she’s from the country just like me she’s a very good storyteller and she’s inspires me because anyone can make it out of the country but some of us don’t take the opportunities that has been given

Q: What inspired you to create your podcast?

A:To voice my opinion on certain topics that in the black community we tend to sweep under the rug such as mental health issues

Q: How do you think authors can get the next generation to put down their phones and pick up a book?

A: That’s an interesting question I must say technology is taking over a lot of things! I use Good reads to find other books and authors! Nowadays there are virtual book clubs so we can all stay connected with books and as one ! As for putting down the phones set a downtime for screen time so then the phone shuts off and read and you will be surprised on the results 6 minutes per day relieves stress! But we have to teach this generation it’s okay to read !

Q: Have you read certain books and you can relate to the characters? If so why?

A: Actually yes just recently I’ve read this book called Not Your Forever by Author C. Monet and Unloved Me by Lesha Bree very talented authors I will say I was on a love/emotional roller coaster with these two books the reason I say this because of the fact I was going some personal relationship issues and it made me confront them and made me realize a lot of things ! One thing I want my queens to know never settle for less and most importantly you shouldn’t have to ask/beg for love, affection and attention from your partner never!

Q: What book would you recommend for young ladies who are struggling to find love and why?

A: Not Your Forever by Author C. Monet because of the fact it teaches us women that there’s always someone who will treat you like the queen that you are! Accepting your flaws and all
